My "Tribute" to Trump

Have you noticed that Republicans have precious few heroes? That is not accidental, since most of their presidents have been terrible. They love Reagan (undeservedly), but that's about it. They never talk about George W. Bush or his father, or Ford. Of course they don't talk about Nixon. Hoover had that Great Depression thing. Eisenhower (60 years ago) and Teddy Roosevelt (over 110 years ago) were good presidents, but way too far left for today's Republican Party. Lincoln was perhaps the greatest president, but the neo-Confederates who form the base of the party loathe him.

The twice-impeached career criminal and traitor who will infest the White House for a few more hours is still beloved by some, but many Republicans have already started distancing themselves from him. Witness McConnell's statements today. That process will only accelerate as we learn more about his attempted coup, and as the indictments and then convictions come. He will be remembered as the worst excuse for a president ever: corrupt to the core; a traitor, dedicated (ironically) to destroying the Constitution and the laws, institutions and norms that have made this country great; a malignant narcissist and a sociopath, devoid of human empathy; deranged; a pathological liar; a racist, xenophobe, and confessed sexual predator; stupid, ignorant, and intellectually incurious; contemptuous of science; a man responsible for perhaps 300,000 American deaths because he refused to do anything sensible in response to the pandemic; and the only president ever to stage an attempted coup against the United States. He is a monster. His name will live in infamy.
